Solothurn water has hardness level 2–3 — softer than Aargau, but old-town original chrome and original silicone demand strictly material-neutral methods. Acid forbidden, substance preserved.

Solothurn water is softer than Aargau water: hardness level 2–3 versus 3–4. That means less aggressive limescale, visible after weeks rather than days. Sounds like an advantage — it is, with one significant "but" .
The "but" is old-town original fabric . In the Baroque properties around the St. Ursen-Kathedrale, sanitary installations are found with original chrome layers from the 1950s–1970s, original silicone, sometimes original ceramics. Acid here does not only dissolve limescale — it dissolves fabric that is lost irreversibly.
