Basel water has hardness grade 1–2 — very soft Rhine groundwater that leaves barely any limescale. Yet: Old Town original substance, premium fittings on the pharma campus and historic seals require material-neutral care.

Basel tap water is the softest in our service area: hardness grade 1–2 from Rhine groundwater and Jura springs — even softer than Bern. In theory this means: fewer limescale deposits . Fewer limescale deposits does not mean: no limescale.
The 'but' is called Old Town original substance . In the historic properties around Basel Minster, Freie Strasse and Spalenvorstadt, fittings and seals have often been there for decades. Even with soft water, mineral residue builds up over the years on original chrome surfaces and historic silicone seals.
